Ontario's highest court Decriminalizes Brothels

The matter is essentially a political matter and not a judicial one. The court did make it clear that there needs to be more dialogue around values, autonomy, equality, etc. They were primarily concerned with the safety of prostituted women in this case. They found that the laws as they are now further jeopardize the safety of an already vulnerable and abused population of people - the prostituted women. This is true; the only problem is they went about correcting the problem in a counterproductive way that will only proliferate the problem.

The most effective way to deal with this problem is to adopt the Nordic model, which criminalizes the demand (buyers of sex) and pimps, and decriminalizes the women and offers them exit strategies. The most important thing we can do at this point is to write our MPs. There is an outline you could download and personalize here: http://www.educatingvoices.ca/...

The government has the power to end this all by changing the laws surrounding prostitution (presently, prostitution is not illegal) so that it will no longer be deemed unconstitutional to hold those who are living off the avails of prostitution criminally liable.
